Maseru, Lesotho. (News of The South) – Lesotho’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Paseka Mokete, has announced that Prime Minister Thomas Thabane is now being charged with murder following the assassination of his ex wife Lipolelo Thabane in 2017.
His wife Maesaiah Thabane, has already been charged with murder and is currently on bail awaiting trial next month.
“The Prime Minister is going to be charged with the murder. The police are preparing the directives,” said the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
However, the Prime Minister announced on Thursday that he would be stepping down at the end of July, citing old age as the reason for leaving office.
“I have served my country diligently, I have worked for a peaceful and stable Lesotho. Today at my age, I have lost most of my energy, I hereby retire as Prime Minister with effect from the end of July,” said Thabane.
Thabane has been under mounting pressure over the death of his ex wife Lipolelo Thabane and the alleged involvement of his current wife.
