(News of The South) – On August 19 2020 Kamala Harris was announced as a vice-presidential candidate in US A elections.
Harris has made ut to the history books by becoming the nation’s first female, black and Indian American vice president elect.
The Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s Vice president has been making history all her life.
Born to parents of Jamaican and Indian descent in California, Harris went to Howard University and then served as the first woman and Black person as San Francisco’ district attorney and California’s attorney general.
In 2016 Harris went on to be the first Black and first Indian American to serve in the US Senate.
The president of the National Organization for Women, Christian Nunes told Business Insider, “Bringing Black and South Asian representative to the table, her lived experiences as a woman of color and a daughter of immigrants will offer a point of view in the White House the likes of which this country has never seen.”
A Democratic operative Christine Pelosi who went to law school with the vice presidential elect said, having Harris “ensures a seat at the table in the Oval Office for communities never before represented there.”
