Two Frenchmen have been killed in Mali, Kidal after being abducted by gunmen.

Journalists with a French radio Radio France Internationale, Ghislaein Dupont and Claude Verlon were kidnapped on Saturday by gunmen after conducting an interview with Tuareg Rebel leader.

“A few minutes after a pursuit began for the abductors of the two Frenchmen, we were informed that their bodies were found riddled with bullets outside the town,” said Paul-Marie Sidibe, a prefect of Tinzawaten, based in Kidal.

Another senior Taureg official confirmed that the bodies were recovered outside of Kidal and it is alleged the journalists were killed 12 km outside Kidal.

On the incident the French Foreign affairs department confirms the death of the journalists in a statement saying they were abducted by an armed group.

“The French government in conduction with Mali government will make every effort to find out as soon as possible about the circumstances of their deaths,” said the statement.

The killing has occurred while the Mali government is in the process of holding talks with rebel groups to prevent widely spreading conflicts in the country.
