Harare, Zimbabwe (News Of The South) As the country continues to grapple with a plethora of challenges ranging from skyrocketing of commodity prices with shortage of fuel and subsequent proliferation of black market the, Finance Ministry has moved on to put inplace decisive measures aimed at curtailing the unperturbing economic chaos.
In a press statement released by the Secretary for Finance and Economic Development, George T Guvamatanga, the Ministry has taken a logical step in introducing a new reforms in the Operation Restore Legacy.
Given the economic position Zimbabwe is fuel has thus gone up to about $RTGS 4. 88 diesel and $RTGS 4.96 petrol.
Because of all these problems and costs facing the transport businesses, the cost to travelers using these commuter omnibuses and taxis as a means of transportation has continued to rise.
The fuel sold at the black market is expensive whilst spending time on long fuel queues is time consuming, which hence translates to loss of business in the transport industry.
This concurrently concided with the decongestion of the Urban Center an operation that emanates from the commuter omnibus operators charging exorbitant fares.
This will see Zupco buses that ferry urban citizen reducing the fares by 50% with effect from the 21st of May while travelling for the general public is being made more affordable as the commuter omnibus costs had gone so high and out of control.

Citizens have been complaining on the transport issue as most have to board to their place of work/business whilst these combis could cost up to RTGS 5 per trip.
The pricing of the Zupco transportation will definitely have an impact on the transport sector.
Although a few months ago, the introduction of these buses had forced the transport prices down, will that be sustainable in the industry if it happens again?
