Zimbabwe Chamber of Agriculture (ZCA) National Coordinator Collin Machingura called upon players in the sector to focus on the preparations for the 2018-2019 agricultural season and forgo politics.

In a press statement shared this afternoon, Machingura said the period of concentrating on politics has come and gone and it is time to focus on production in their sector.

“Politics or not politics the nation still needs the food and there is no where were the food comes from except from the agricultural sector and its industries.

“As ZCA we are already hitting the ground running in making sure that we achieve the vision of our country’s President Cde ED Munangagwa which states that by 2030 as a nation we should have to become a middle income economy and also become a self sufficient nation in terms of food security, where we are able to feed our people,” said Machingura.

Machingura added that the number of players who participated in various provincial agricultural shows held recently is a signal that the country the capacity to achieve what it needs to bring it back the breadbasket status it had in SADC.

“On the issues of capacity building for our chamber membership we have come up with a wide range of short courses that are meant to impart skills and knowledge to players in the agricultural sector.

“The courses will help them to achieve better results in their agribusiness enterprises,” he said.

ZCA’s statements have come at a time when the nation is waiting for the biggest exhibition trade fare in the country, the Harare Agricultural Show which roars into life on next Monday.
