EMA Stakeholders Conference To Unravel Wetlands Guidelines Preservation

Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Environment advocacy groups particularly Harare Wetlands Trust, Lawyers For Human Rights and Community Water Alliance calling for wetlands preservation last year constantly mounted pressure in calling for wetlands management and preservation.
The campaign went a long way in seeking the attention of relevant authorities a move which saw City Councilors and Parliamentarians actively participating in the fight against the continued invasion of wetlands.
Inlight of this background the Ministry responsible for Environment will be hosting an Stakeholders Conference in the quest to foster guidelines for the wetlands management.
This was revealed by Environment, Tourism and Industry Minister Hon Prisca Mupfumira while introducing the new Environmental Management Agency (EMA) Board in the Capital.
Addressing journalists Hon Prisca Mupfumira reiterated that the new EMA’s Board is expected to introduce a new taste in the environmental sector with the Stakeholders conference slated around June this year expected to set guidelines measures in wetlands preservation and management.
“ I understand that government is responsible for regulating polices but the new board will be determined to here from various stakeholders with the knowledge of wetlands preservation to come on board so that guidelines for wetlands preservation will be set so as to preserve our environment.”
The recent workshops conducted in some parts of Bulawayo last week is a clear indication that various stakeholders in the country are beginning to embrace the idea of safeguarding the environment through wetlands preservation following a number of sensitizations in the recent times.
Speaking at the same occasion EMA’s Director Aaron Chagwu said that there has been a number of positive developments taking place in various parts of the country with the latest workshops held in Bulawayo.
“So far we are beginning to witness positive developments in the country on the need to preserve our wetlands and recently there was a a workshop on Guidelines of Wetlands preservation which was held in Bulawayo.”
