On Friday May 24, City Sports Bar will host live performances by Dazzlah and Ice king, amongst other artists.
“On this upcoming show, I promise top class performance and my audience will be treated to three new singles and I can’t wait for their feedback”.
Maxwell Muungani, whose stage name is Dazzlah, is a Zimbabwean artist based in Capetown, South Africa. Dazzlah is commonly known for his single “Kure Kure.” He was born in 1985 and is a father of two. He said; “The best news I have ever received was when I was informed about the birth of my son”.
I had a one on one with Dazzlah and I got to learn a lot about his life and what drives him to be the best in the game.
Rise to music
“In 2005 whilst playing a few notes on my guitar and humming this melody in my head I felt the sudden urge to express myself on paper. That is when I started writing songs and I haven’t stopped. My first recording was in 2010 with Gupsy Warrior and though I enjoyed the experience I got from working with the great artist, the song was not very well received by the audience”.
“I did not give up though, because I believe in myself and my music hence I used the feedback I got from various stakeholders and I polished my act and kept on doing what I love best, music. I then went to Eyespy Entertainment, and my second track titled “Chibharo” instantly became a hit. I am grateful to my manager, Eugene Majuru, who has organised quite a number of shows for me and has given me the exposure that I needed” explained Dazzlah.
Dazzlah’s career in music was cultivated from a tender age, singing at Sunday school and having his mother guide him was what ignited the spark for music. As he grew up, he fell in love with music itself. Not only is he passionate about music but he is a hard worker literally, he works as a contractor at IPM Construction Company.
What are your dreams and aspirations?
“It is my desire to work hard so as to help the less fortunate. It pains me seeing orphans struggling. I would like to start a charity foundation that assists orphans. With the respect that I have for Jah Prayzer, it would be an honour to collaborate with him, as well as Ice Prince. Working on a song with Rick Ross would be a dream come true” he added.
What is your key to success?
“Believing in myself. I trust my music and I am confident that one day I will be on top”.
Advice to aspiring artists
“I would like to advice anyone who wishes to be in this music industry to be strong. It requires patience and perseverance. To those aspiring to artists, it is vital that you get a manager who will guide you in the processes. For instance, you need a producer and you need to be registered as a musician. You don’t just wake up and you hear your music playing on the radio, hard work and persistence will get you there”.
Challenges you face as artists?
We do not have our own studios, it is a challenge to record.
Message to fellow Zimbabweans?
“I love you all, my brothers and sisters. Ndokudai mese”.
