Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Fighting climate change is an inevitable battle, a worthwhile challenge which takes every human creature on earth to take courage, dedication and maximum strength in order to save the precious gift of life endowed in the entire planet.

Time is now ripe for the truth to be told across all nationalities, races, ethinic groups and continents of the myriad challenges which lays ahead in the history of the future on issues revolving fighting against climate change.



Of interest sake is information dissemination and awareness on the pertaining subject topic is learning about climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.

Inlight of this background Zimbabwe has of late been on the centre of epitome through emulation from the outside world in handling issues of climate change with highest level of seriousness and commitment.

The department of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation under the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture have since moved away from theoretically preaching the gospel of climate change to a policy implementation and action driven plan.

The main focus is now anchoring on reducing carbon emission by at least 2 percent as envisioned in the Paris Agreement thereby ensuring a stable environment in which human lives and endangered species survives on sustainable grounds.

According to Lawrence Mashungu Climate Change Mitigation Officer in the Ministry, Zimbabwe is determined to adopt a holistic approach on environmental challenges through maximum incorporation of institutions such as education among others inorder to achieve sustainable development.

“As the country Zimbabwe is moving towards implementing Low Emission Development Strategie, for us to achieve the climate change goals there is need for us to ensure that our education curriculum especially the colleges, pyrotechnics and the universities, they conform to the requirements of the green economy so that, so today we gathered universities to discuss the elements that are necessary for Low Emission Development for Climate Change so that the graduate who comes out of the universities will be able to implement Climate Change Mitigation and Climate Change Adaptation.”



The move will see all institutions of the society conforming to embrace the latest requirements on the fight against climate change, adaptation and mitigation at national level.

This will also be a milestone developmental agenda in achieving global target to reduce carbon emissions by at least by 50 percent in the next 10 years.

Achieving green economy in a developing state like Zimbabwe will be a game changer in the fight against climate change in the Southern Africa region.
