Mixed Reactions over Chasi’s sacking

Former Energy Minister, Fortune Chasi was fired yesterday from his post and replaced by Hon Soda Vhemu but they are mixed reactions over his dismissal.
Self exiled Prof Jonathan Moyo posted on his Twitter account and said to uninitiated pundits, Sydney Gata was brought back to #Zesa due to his Mugabe links. No. Gata has deep personal links with Mnangagwa. Gata’s #Zesa appointment was by presidential order. When and Fortune Chas suspended Gata, he had to go and he’s gone!
Prof Jonathan Moyo added from 2009 to 2017, Gata used to be a conspicuous & perennial visitor to Mnangagwa’s Defence House offices, when he was Defence Minister; and to his New Govt Complex Building offices, when he was VP & Justice Minister. Gata is one of Mnangagwa’s key but unheralded advisors!
” There’s a more fundamental bond between Gata & Mnangagwa. Gata’s son is married to one of three sisters that Mnangagwa treats as his own daughters. If journalists were to dig out her name & Mnangagwa links, they’ll unravel Mnangagwa’s “expectations” that Chasi failed to meet”, Prof Moyo explained.
Samson Sibanda, a political activist said It’s not about Gata. The Gata issue is secondary and corridor news from Government Offices got wind that he had struck a deal with Glencore Industries, owners of Total and fuel situation was set to improve.
This did not go down well with KudakwasheTagwirei who ordered Chasi’s firing. Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka was the former Chairman for the U.Z board and he is also advisor to Tagwirei.
He added that, Chasi overstepped boundaries when he fought Sydney Gata at ZESA. People need to remember who recalled Gata from the scrapyard where he had been offloaded by the Mugabe regime.
“It was now President Emmerson Mnangagwa who brought him back after he was fired for corruption and incompetence in 2006 or thereabouts. Gata has strong ties with President Mnangagwa and no wonder he was behaving like a cowboy at ZESA”, Sibanda added.

Gata had fired board and in turn the board said they fired the board. Chasi then suspended Gata. Gata said his issue now needs ED’s office. Here we go ,Chibaba is gone.
Some Zanu PF insiders are also blaming Kuda Tagwirei for the sacking Chasi because he is believed to have sensed that Chasi had made inroads in solving the fuel crisis by striking a deal with Total. This could disturb Tagwirei’s looting from the fuel sector hence Chasi had to go.
Apart from Chasi’s dismissal, President Emmerson Mnangagwa also appointed Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka as the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement.
Dr Masuka’s appointment follows the death of Rtd Chief Air marshal, Perrance Shiri who died last month due to Covid -19.
