Harare , Zimbabwe ( News of The South) – The burial of a self-proclaimed Chief Nyajena (Tungamirai) has ignited a storm of controversy in the Nyajena area, with traditional leaders and community members expressing outrage over the proceedings and demanding an investigation into how he was presented as a chief.
The deceased, who reportedly imposed himself as Chief Nyajena, was laid to rest today in a manner that has been deemed disrespectful and not in line with the traditional burial customs for chiefs in the area. Notably absent from the funeral were many influential figures, including the entire council of Nyajena elders.
Speaking to News of the South today, the legitimate Chief Nyajena, Last Dzivake expressed his profound dismay, stating, “It’s very shameful for a chief in Nyajena to be buried without Chief Murinye. He is the father to Nyajena, Mugabe, Shumba, and Bota, among others.” This highlights the significant role of Chief Murinye within the traditional leadership structure of the region.
The council of Nyajena elders has voiced its deep concern over the way the deceased was treated, particularly his placement in the presidium during a recent event. They are demanding to know who facilitated his prominent seating behind First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa, given that he was not a recognized chief.
According to sources, the deceased passed away during the aforementioned event due to what are being described as “spiritual issues” connected to his alleged self-appointment as Chief Nyajena.
The council of elders is now calling on security forces to launch a thorough inquiry into this matter. They insist that those responsible for presenting and recognizing an imposter as a chief should be apprehended and held accountable. “To install someone who is not a chief and declare him as such is unacceptable in our area,” a council member stated.
The controversy surrounding this burial underscores the importance of adhering to traditional customs and the potential repercussions when these norms are disregarded. The demand for an investigation reflects the deep respect for established chieftainship within the Nyajena community and a determination to protect the integrity of their traditional leadership.
