Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – – Tensions are running high in Zimbabwe’s second-largest city as residents have begun demonstrating ahead of the nationwide protests scheduled for March 31st. These early demonstrations reflect a growing sense of unrest and dissatisfaction with the current political and economic climate.
The planned March 31st demonstrations, which have been called for by figures such as expelled ZANU-PF official Blessed “Bombshell” Geza, have prompted a strong response from the government. Reports indicate a heavy police presence in Bulawayo and other urban centers, with authorities vowing to maintain order.
There is heightened security across Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has deployed officers across urban and rural areas to suppress the planned demonstrations. In Harare and Bulawayo, the ZRP has issued a ban on carrying weapons, including machetes and axes, in an effort to curb potential violence.
The demonstrations come amidst a backdrop of rising political tensions, with reports of factional battles within the ruling ZANU-PF party. The increased calls for the protests, are in reaction to public discontent with the current government. The government has issued warnings against participating in the protests, stating that such actions undermine national security and stability. Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe has warned citizens against participating in the planned protests.
Despite the government’s warnings, some Zimbabweans are expressing their determination to participate in the planned demonstrations, citing grievances related to the economy and political situation. There is also a large amount of people who are worried about their safety, and for that reason are choosing to stay home. The situation remains fluid, and the coming days will be crucial in determining the scale and impact of the planned protests.
