Biti Vows Never to Beg Tsvangirai As PDP Joins CODE
Harare, Zimbabwe(News of the South)-Tendai Biti has vowed never to beg Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC-T to join the CODE coalition which now has nine parties after his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) signed in on Thursday vowing to put Mugabe out of power in 2018.
Speaking in a metaphorical way that was however plain to see through, Biti said as CODE they would bow to no one as all parties are equal.
“None of us is bigger than the other, none of us has got an ego and all of us are coming here with the fundamental responsibility and obligation that we have to build a new Zimbabwe, that we have to build a democratic Zimbabwe”.
“This is not a coalition that is in competition with any other political party. This a coalition that is not going to beg anyone or bow to anyone because we are all Zimbabweans and there is no Zimbabwean that is better than the next Zimbabwean”.
“So we are going to work very hard to make sure that we give ZANU PF a run for its money to make sure that the leadership of CODE takes over the leadership of this country and I have no doubt that we are going to do that”.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader who said they had taken long to join as they had been doing internal consultations before joining the only local opposition coalition accused ZANU PF of destroying the country’s values.
“If there is one thing that ZANU PF has killed it’s our value system we have become an intolerant people, we have become a nation full of hate and spite”.
“More so in our political environment we are in competition with each other, we don’t love each other, we don’t like each other …and that is why in our agenda as CODE the most important slogan must be that of transformation because Mugabe has robbed and stolen our Ubuntu, he has stolen that, and that is what we have to restore”, he said.
“We want a Zimbabwe that treats us as first class citizens not this Zimbabwe that treats us like fourth grade and fourth generation citizens, we are not and that’s why we are forming this coalition”.
“In the process of forming this coalition and joining this coalition we know that our country is burning”.
“As we sit here 91 percent of our people are unemployed, the biggest form of employment in our country has become that of selling vegetables and tomatoes and that is not good enough”, he said.
“Many young children are fleeing at a rate of 3000 per week crossing crocodile flooded Limpopo to cross into SA and that is not good enough”
“We are living worse than cattle and wild animals thanks to the regime of Robert Mugabe”, he charged.
Biti said ZANU PF is never going to reform itself out of power raising the need for mass uprisings for change.
“ZANU PF is never going to reform itself out of power. As we sit here right now we don’t have the voter’s roll of 2013 never mind the next voter’s roll. As we sit here right now the UNDP which was trying to help the ZEC with the conducting of the Biometric Voter’s Roll has just been kicked out because that is what ZANU PF knows best”
“So we have to fight this regime in the streets, in the courtroom in the church”, he said.
PDP’s joining of CODE take the number of opposition parties in the coalition to nine as it joins the likes of Simba Makoni’s Mavambo, Dumiso Dabengwa’s ZAPU, Farai Mbira’s Zunde and Welshman Ncube’s MDC.
