Birmingham, England. (News of The South) – English Premier League (EPL) club, Aston Villa, yesterday confirmed the signing of Tanzanian striker Mbwana Samatta from Belgian side Genk.

The 27-year-old signed a four and a half year deal with Villa for US$13.1 million. Samatta will be the first Tanzanian to play in the EPL.
“I am so excited, it’s a huge step for me in my career. It’s a big step for the country too. Everyone was looking for a Tanzanian to play in the Premier League,” said the Tanzanian forward.

He started his plight in Europe in 2016 when he moved from Congolese giants Tout Puissant Mazembe to Genk in Belgium.

Samatta scored 61 goals in 165 appearances during his four years with the Belgian club. The 27-year-old striker is the current holder of the Ebony Shoe, the prize awarded to the best African player in Belgium.

He will now be joining his fellow compatriot, Marvelous Nakamba from Zimbabwe who plays as a midfielder.
