News of the South HARARE – Female ethnomusicologist and Afro-Fusion Diva Alice Chinya has promised fireworks at the Clash of Zim Divas show scheduled for the 29th of September at an amusement outdoor joint in Dzivarasekwa, Harare known as Padziva.
In an interview with News of the South the 30 year old songbird said the unique Padziva Clash which is an all female affair, being the first of its kind and her being one of the debutant performers, means a lot and it is ground breaking to her.
“It’s a good way to penetrate further into the music industry, thanks to JIVE (Zimbabwe).
“From me people should expect a hell of a show with fireworks in Afro and mbira fusion jazz, all in one and don’t forget your dancing shoes,” Alice said confidently.
She added that although she hasn’t released any tracks or albums she has remarkable stage experience having performed with established artistes including Edith Weutonga, Wanai Ndudzo, Eve Kawadza, Chantel Wright, Dereck Mpofu and Tendai Madzviti.
“I have not yet released any albums or tracks but before the year ends I’m sure I will be making the air play giggle,” said Alice.
Alice is a Mbira fusion/Jazz and Afro-pop musician who started showing interest in music at a tender age (four) and started doing it professionally in 2012 when she enrolled at the Zimbabwe College of Music where she did her first independent performance.
Apart from the nyunga nyunga mbira and nhare mbira, Alice who draws inspiration from her father also plays the piano, acoustic guitar and flute.
“My day one inspiration was my dad who is very musical and has an amazing baritone/bass so whenever he would sing I would envy him but however, I wouldn’t be a bass but he inspired my singing and we became an awesome harmony,” Alice added.
She started solo performances in 2012 and to date she has soldiered on with them and hopes to take her musical career to unexplored heights.
