Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – The coronavirus cases have gone down by 20% in Africa in the past few days and the question remains, is what we are seeing on the statistics really what is on the ground?
It has been 7 months since the first case of covid 19 was recorded in Africa and it has already seen a decline in the cases which means it might have already passed its peak.
This has come as a surprise to the world that had initially thought Africa would not survive the coronavirus since it already had the biggest disadvantage of all which is weak health systems.
Everyone has been left wondering if really Africa has passed the peak and already headed on the downward slope and if so what could have been the reason for this miraculous event.
There have been a lot of negative responses from African citizens themselves on the reason why covid-19 has gone low in Africa.
An anonymous source said, “The decline is because the money is coming. I give you just weeks you will hear an increase because money is lacking in private pockets. More money no corona and less money more corona.”
“I think the figures emanating from Africa are even exaggerated as some unscrupulous leadership of some nations use these figures to borrow money from the West in the name of the pandemic,” said another source.
The main problem seen in Africa is that the citizens do not feel that their leadership is being honest with them about what is really happening on the ground.
A Ugandan citizen when on to complain saying there can never be a clear portrayal of what is happening in Africa because most people cannot afford to get tested it is now 240,000 ushs to get tested and that is a lot of money.
However other people seemed to have faith in the miraculous happenings and said Africans have a strong immune system which is saving them from the pandemic.
“The current hot and warm climate here in Kenya could be the reason for the decline” said Kenya.
Although a lot of things are not going soundly for Africans where leadership and accountability is concerned they do have some very natural ones giving them a kick start against this pandemic.
