According to VP Mohadi the chiefs have a role to play in ensuring the restoration of Cultural norms and values of the society a move which is likely to spearhead peace-making in nation building.
“ As Traditional leaders you are always with the people in various communities where you come from especially the upcoming generations therefore you have a huge role to inculcate our cultural norms and values of the society to ensure peace building and stability in the society.”
Of late the society is fast becoming a a playing grounds for hostility and violence which have been witnessed during the post 2018 election period and the January 14 this year which invited deadly massacres.
The assessment made so far vindicates the upcoming generation as the major perpetrators emanating from the diminishing of societal norms and values over the years.
Traditional leaders have been viewed as the ideal societal masters who bewild the capacity to reinforce the lost cultural values before the entire society is endangered to a new form of sub-culture that is identified with unstable atmosphere and political violence hence the need to deal with the scourge from socialization processes.
“As traditional leaders you are close to the families raise up children through various means of socialization and its now time our norms and values be taughts at a tender age as this helps to structure individual’s personality up adulthood through hunhu ubunthu principles.”
“Peace begins in the family and from the family to the society and its high time black people should uphold the values of hunhu and ubunthu which differentiate us from other cultures.”
The Zimbabwean platue is composed of multicultural sections well positioned according to ethnicity which requires blending and fusion as a way to foster unity of purpose among the people and this will help to reignite sense of belonging among the people.
“ Zimbabwe is composed of different cultures which requres what we may refer to as fusion of culture and this will certainly unity all the people under one culture, this implies that chiefs have a huge role to ensure that these principles are put forward.”
