Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-In an event that has gone down in history thick snow fell in lower Gweru on Saturday creating images reminiscent of European cities with unconfirmed reports stating the thickness of the snow to be over 4cm.

Eyewitness reports stated that snow covered every layer of the ground though they have been no reports of any dangerous situations.

Images from Zimbabwe’s fourth largest city revealed that the winter snow had fallen in abundance and people could be seen frolicking in it surprised and elated at a sight that is generally un-African.

Some analysts have linked the historic snow to the ongoing global warming which has among other things resulted in droughts and floods.

Sections of the world have been experiencing extreme ends of weather with Zimbabwe having just gone through a very hot summer with heatwaves that caused illnesses among many people.

The snow in Gweru is testament to the reality of global warming and analysts have been quick to call for more action against environmentally unfriendly actions such as deforestation and fires.

However some sections have dismissed talk of snow saying its actually sleet like hail.

Effort to get a comment from the Meteorological Department to provide a conclusive statement on the historicity of the Gweru snow could not be obtained at the time of going to press.
