Harare, Zimbabwe. (News Of The South)- One of Zimbabwe’s Assistant Commissioners has been appointed the Police Commissioner for Darfur in South Sudan in a move that has been hailed by the Commissioner General of Police Cde Dr Augustine Chihuri.

Assistant Commissioner Priscilla Makotose recently took up the post of Police Commissioner for Darfur after being selected from a global grouping of other police officers by the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (UNDPKO).

Speaking during a briefing and de-briefing of South Sudan and Liberia Contingents returning from the respective countries, CGP Chihuri said professional attributes were the causative.

“Due to her professional and strategic attributes, she was found most suitable to execute the mandate as defined by the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations”.

“The appointment of the senior officer adds to the roll of honour of other female senior officers who distinguished themselves on these high level competitive appointments, among whom was Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba who successfully executed her mandate as Operations Strategic Coordinator for the United Nations Mission in Liberia”, he said.

Commissioner Chihuri said the organisation would continue advancing the female cause.

“The organisation will continue to open wide the doors of opportunities for female officers to compete equally with their male counterparts in similar assignments where they can excel, impact their knowledge and skills without limitation”.

“Our female officers both at home and abroad have demonstrated unparalled ability, capability, tried, tested and proven competencies to effectively and thoroughly execute responsibilities with the aplomb of veritable professionals”, he added.

Commissioner Chihuri applauded the returning officers coming back from missions in South Sudan and those from Liberia where they have completed one year missions.

He exhorted the 5 officers who are going to South Sudan to maintain the same standard set by their peers.

The departing South Sudan Contingent consists of 4 female officers and one male officer.
