The debris of a Mozambican plane that vanished over Namibia has been found with all 34 people on board dead, a police statement has revealed.
The charred aircraft was found in Bwabwata National Park, adjacent to frontiers with Angola and Botswana.
“The plane has been completely burnt to ashes and there are no survivors,” said Willy Bampton a Namibian Police Force deputy commissioner.
The flight TM470 left Mozambique’s capital, Maputo, at 11:26am and was supposed to arrive in Angola at 14:10pm.
Flight TM470’s last contact was made when it was over Namibia.
Authorities said most of the people on board were Mozambican or Angolan and few were Portuguese. There were also some Chinese, Brazilian and French citizens.
Primary reports indicate that the plane has landed in Rundi, but villagers confirmed that they heard an explosion from nearby bushes.
“Botswana officials informed us that they saw smoke in the air and they thought the crash happened in their country, but when they came to the border they realise that it was in Namibia,” Bampton said.
