The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Vice-President Omega Sibanda was recently in Brazil on business.
During his visit Sibanda was able to attend the FIFA and Caf congresses.
Some of the members who traveled with Omega Sibanda are the ZIFA President DR Cuthbert Dube and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jonathan Mashingaidze.
The ZIFA President, CEO and the Vice-President had the privilege to attend the World Cup opening ceremony and also watch the opening game pitting the hosts, Brazil against Croatia.
Sibanda told ZIFA’s official website www.zifa.org.zw that trip served as an eye opener to the football leaders on how to organise professionally a football tournament of the magnitude of a World Cup .
“I was impressed with how FIFA organises such major tournaments like the World Cup. It is high time we take a cue from our mother body,” said Sibanda
“Even both the CAF and FIFA Congress was well organised. I was impressed.
“The onus now rests with us, to put into action some of the lessons learnt for the good governance of the beautiful game”, the veteran football administrator said in a wide ranging interview.
The ceremony beamed lived across the globe will serve as the highest barometer of measurement of how things must be done in football.
In that regard countries like Zimbabwe still have a lot to learn from FIFA and its structures as far as football administration, management is concerned.
