Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Three people have since lost their lives as a result of violent thunderstorms that are being experienced in Zimbabwe.
Yesterday two people lost their lives when a commuter omnibus parked in Mbare, Harare, was hit by a falling old tree during a violent thunderstorm.
The incident transpired in the afternoon when heavy rains characterised by exceptionally violent winds uprooted old trees in several places around Harare.

A couple of days ago, a seven year old boy lost his life when Komba Primary School in Lupane was hit by a storm.
In the country’s fourth largest city, graves are constantly being submerged whenever there are thunderstorms, which is not relating well with the residents.
However, Gweru Mayor, Josiah Makombe said, “I understand we only have one machine for de-watering graves, but our cemeteries are many. Council will take measures to address that situation.”
The country’s Meteorological Services Department has since issued out a statement warning the general public about the thunderstorms.
“In case of severe thunderstorms, do not seek shelter under a tree or in isolated sheds as these are prone to lightning strikes. Gusty winds may blow off unsecure roofs of classroom blocks and homes. Do not rush outside, it is safe to be under a desk or table.”
