Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)- In the aftermath of a typhoid outbreak shocking pictures have emerged of faecal infested boreholes in Harare’s Mbare.

The pictures, some from Chishawasha, are a shocking reminder of how the Health Minister’s option of demolishing Matapi flats is a limited response to the typhoid issue.

The boreholes have been reportedly been decommissioned to avoid the further escalation of the health crisis.

News about boreholes suffering contamination emerged sometime last year during WASH meetings but there had been little done with experts only advising that any future boreholes have tanks fitted at sites so that the water could first be made safe for drinking.
