Members of the National Assembly who were elected during the 30th July 2018 harmonised polls have taken new oath of office at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Parliament building in Harare this afternoon, two days after Harare Councillors also took their oath.
With the business of swearing of parliamentarians out of the way, the nation’s eyes are impatiently fixed on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s court announce his much awaited new cabinet.

In the run up to the swearing in of MPs President Mnangagwa hinted on the orientation of his cabinet saying he will include youths and women.
<br>
Former MDC policy adviser Eddie Cross said President Mnangagwa’s cabinet choice will swing the game in Zimbabwe’s favour if he brings in the right people.
<br>
“If he recycles the old guard and fails to appoint new blood; even from outside his party, he will disappoint and this will make his task even greater than it has to be,” Cross said.

The swearing-in of Members of Parliament (MPs) had the Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda presiding over the occasion where 270 legislators took new oath of office.

To ease the process, swearing in was conducted in groups of 10 due to the inadequacy of space in the August House to accommodate the large number of legislators.
<br>
New legislators pledged their preparedness to represent the wishes of the people and put national interest ahead of political affiliations.
<br>
After scooping a two thirds majority, Zanu PF is expected to dominate the 9th Parliament while MDC Alliance will play a watchdog role without their leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa who will be following parliament business from the terraces.
