Malawi (News of The South) – Unknown assailants suspected to be the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) thugs are reported to have petrol bombed the the house Compound for the Human Rights Defenders Coalition, (HRDC) chairperson Timothy Mtambo in the capital city, Lilongwe.
An eye witness told this publication reporter that the incident happened around 02:30hours on 15th August 2019.
The petrol bomb that was thrown in the compound is has burnt and damaged one of Mtambo’s vehicles.
Police in the capital have not yet come up with any immediate comment on the matter as their press officers were not picking calls on their mobile phones despite several attempts tried to hear from them.
There is a suspected foul play on the matter as the leadership of the HRDC is on record of calling for a two million march demonstrations in the country’s boarders and airports, demanding for the resignation of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah.
Ansah is accused of failing to properly manage the May 21 presidential election results which declared the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Peter Mutharika winner.
Meanwhile, the United Transformation Movement (UTM) and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) are challenging the presidential result in court.
