The family of a renowned TAJAMUKA activist David Mukondo who has been on the run for quite some months has for the first time come out claiming foul play by secret service on their uncle led to his disappearance or running away.

News of The South (NOTS) had a one on one interview with David’s niece identified as Mukondo Junior.

News of the south – NOTS

NOTS: Junior tell us brief about your relationship with missing or “on the run” David Mukondo.

MJ: David is eldest in a family of four sisters, he is my uncle and from childhood he has been taking care of me.
NOTS: Any idea what could have caused your uncle to go into hiding for quite such a long time.

MJ: it’s a long story “sobbing tears”
My uncle was an activist with Tajamuka.
He participated in mobilizing youths for many demonstrations including the massive Anti Bond Notes Rally.
After a tip off, the police in civilian clothing suspected to be from CID started visiting our residence looking for my uncle. Since that day, he spent almost a month sleeping from one house to another in the neighborhood we would go and give him food and clothes to change but he never came home fearing for his life after reports that some of his team members were being arrested and abducted.

They brought a warrant for his arrest, searched all over the house for him and threatened me that if they failed to find him they were coming for me.
These secrets agents on the next day came and shot our dog to instill fear on me.
This happened for almost five weeks.
I was getting worried about his health and security.

The last day I communicated with him was when he come and told me that he was leaving Harare and will be back in a month and that I should go to his Sister’s place till he came back.

NOTS: How have you been surviving since your uncle went missing and I believe he was the breadwinner in your family?

MJ: I went to my aunt’s place and it’s been really hard for me considering that my aunt was having issues with her husband who isn’t going to work.
We are suffering.
He was the one paying for our rentals, now I’m almost homeless.
Has it not been foul play by the police and CID my uncle wouldn’t have disappeared like that.
Wherever he is he can’t come back because he is on the wanted list.

NOTS: Do you believe your uncle is still in hiding or was abducted.
MJ: Only God knows but I’m only sure that he is alive and safe wherever he is.

NOTS: It’s been a pleasure meeting you Junior
MJ: Thank You
