Harare, Zimbabwe(News of the South)-The Coalition of Democrats (CODE) coalition has re-affirmed its continued invitation to Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC-T and Mai Mujuru’s ZimPF to join it in a united front against ZANU PF in the 2018 elections.
In a statement released just before Tsvangirai’s former Secretary General in the MDC, Tendai Biti had his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) join CODE, the coalition said the door is still open.
“Our longstanding invitation to Presidents Morgan Tsvangirai, Mai Mujuru and Jacob Ngarivhume is genuine”.
“We will welcome all genuine freedom fighters; vendors, war veterans, students, churches and the business community to unite with us and sort the mess in our country”.
“Your seats at the CODE table are empty and only you can fill them. We look forward to the day we will all march, hand-in-hand, up Samora Machel Avenue to Parliament House to usher in a free Zimbabwe”, it said.
Farai Mbira the current CODE Chairman said they shunned any disunity.
“We shun any form of dysfunction because our proposed government will only be as united and functional as we are now. We are united to build on each other and to bring the best outcome for our people”, he said.
Biti’s PDP joins the CODE, a week after two more parties did the same, to bring the number of parties in the coalition to nine.
Any optimism from that is however tempered by the absence of Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC-T.
MDC-T has remained on the sidelines with accusations that it’s being restrained by its Big Brother mentality from joining the others whilst Mai Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) is currently mired in fractitious fights.
