After a 1-1 scoreline in regulation time the hosts won 3-2 on penalties.
Chile’s Mauricio Pinilla and Alexis Sanchez had penalties saved, before Gonzalo Jara missed the crucial final kick when his effort hit a post.

Battling Chile, who had crushed World Cup holders Spain in the group stages, hit back
when Eduardo Vargas took advantage of a defensive error and fed Sanchez who neatly fired home.
Controversy was witnessed in the second half when Brazil’s Hulk had a goal disallowed when referee Howard Webb ruled out his goal on the advice of assistant referee Michael Mullarkey who indicated that the striker handled Marcelo’s pass.
