Zimbabwe is a violent state. It’s history is that of war and blood. The liberation war was a necessary and justifiable avenue for achievement of Black majority rule and attainment of real independence. However, the Gukurahundi, bloody land invasions, violence during every election and emotional violence on social media today is unwarranted.

Zanu PF has and is notorious about violence and it is fact of public record that Zanu PF drips of raw African blood. Violence is in the DNA of Zanu PF. The ruling party has further enlisted state security arms to further perpetuate and effect violence against defenseless and innocent citizens. This violation of basic human rights and blatant trashing of our sacred constitution has no place in a modern democracy and Zanu PF is better advised and warned that he who lives by the sword will die by the sword. State violence must stop forthwith and all perpetrators must account foe their actions.

Sadly, Zimfirst notes with shock that there has been political osmosis where violence tendencies are migrating from Zanu PF to some opposition parties and elements. Zimbabweans are an angry people. That is understandable considering what they have been going through for decades. However, tolerance and mutual respect between political players are a mark of a democratic and progressive society. The harassment and emotional abuse subjected to other political players on social media by MDCA supporters is alarming. Mr Chamisa must provide leadership and call out his supporters to order otherwise their conduct does not reflect well on opposition politics. He is ultimately responsible for the conduct that emanates from his camp.

Zimfirst believes in the right to freedom, liberty and general pursuit of happiness for every citizen. In this light we take exception with any political party or formation that abuse fellow citizens on the basis of differing political tastes. Let us stand united in our political diversity.
