Hertfordshire Showground, UK ( News of The South)  – This Saturday, Zimfest UK is poised to welcome over 30,000 attendees to the Hertfordshire Showground, with a significant surge in numbers attributed to the increasing Zimbabwean diaspora arriving in the UK on skilled visas. The annual cultural celebration promises a vibrant day of music, connection, and learning, but festival-goers are advised to prepare for potential challenges to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

The event, renowned for fostering connections and showcasing Zimbabwean culture, is expected to be a colourful affair with a powerful line-up of artists. Amapiano, the popular South African music genre, will feature prominently, with a dedicated stage for children, ensuring entertainment for all ages.

However, a key concern for many regular attendees is the sharp increase in parking fees, which have doubled from £10 to £20 this year. While the showground is not in a built-up area, the price hike has sparked debate among patrons. One seasoned festival-goer strongly recommends utilising the designated festival buses to mitigate costs and avoid potential traffic congestion, echoing the sentiment of many looking to save money.

The unpredictable British weather is another factor to consider. With recent rain in the UK, attendees are urged to come fully prepared with umbrellas and raincoats, as showers could occur at any time.

Beyond the weather, practical considerations for communication and transactions are paramount. Network signal drops are a common occurrence at festivals, and Zimfest is not expected to be an exception. While some speculate about organisers “jamming” signals to protect equipment, the reality is that large crowds and PA systems often interfere with mobile phone connectivity. To counter this, families and friends are encouraged to establish clear meeting points in case communication fails, especially for parents with young children.

To stay connected, power banks for mobile phones are deemed essential. Furthermore, festival-goers are strongly advised to carry cash for food and drink purchases, as card machines may be unreliable due to potential network issues. The outdoor setting at Hertfordshire Showground also means muddy fields could be a factor, making suitable footwear a crucial item on the packing list. Lastly, rugs and folding chairs are recommended for comfortable seating throughout the day.

Despite these practical advisories, the anticipation for Zimfest UK remains high. With a compelling line-up of performers and the unique opportunity to connect with old friends and make new ones, all roads lead to Hertfordshire Showground this weekend for what promises to be an unforgettable cultural immersion.
