Zimbabwe’s political culture continues to plunge into a dire state
By Dr. Limukani Mathe ZimFirst Party Advisory Board Spokesperson.
It is all due to irresponsible and selfish political institutions running our country in government and parliament. ZANU-PF and MDC are to blame for all this political and socio-economic mayhem. ZANU-PF has been in government for 40 years while the MDC has presided over our urban councils for 20 years. It is undeniable that they have both failed to ensure a prosperous Zimbabwe.
The country has further degenerated into a political battle field. When ZANU-PF blunders and mismanages affairs of governance, it blames sanctions and the West. When MDC blunders and mismanages its own internal affairs, the outfit blames ZANU-PF. These two parties have clearly become two sides of the same coin. The two outfits play a dangerous game, with themselves, and the people. The MDC has surely become like ZANU-PF. They have created a toxic political environment and consequently our people bear the blunt of the ZANU PF and MDC malfeasance The two parties seem to have forgotten that the people are the country. Nyika Vanhu, Abantu Yilizwe!
The real economic and social transformation of our nation requires HONESTY, ACCOUNTABILITY and UNITY of Purpose. All these values lack in the MDC and ZANU-PF.
The time has come to rebuild, to deliberate and engage citizenry on new ways of citizen participation in national development. Time has come to end the polarity and political toxicity haunting our beautiful country. The polarity in the country caused by ZANU-PF and MDC denies our people freedom to think diversely and independently. We cannot talk of economic development under such political turmoil in Zimbabwe where both parties prove to be dishonesty, irresponsible and disunited whilst managing matters of national development. Obviously, where there is political commotion, there is economic regression. We the Zimbabwe First party advocate for a new way forward, anchored on selfless leadership, sincerity and social responsibility.
Zimbabwe needs a new paradigm shift not this façade under Mnangagwa’s government, a new mindset with a clean break from the past and a new way of doing things. Zimbabwe is tired of legal cum political activists who are busy arguing court matters ignoring real issues whilst enriching themselves at the expense of the peoplse’s cause. Zimbabwe’s economic and social woes will never be resolved by the same perpetrators. The culture of recycling same failed national leaders at the detriment of the citizenry is exasperating and is the reason why we are in this sorry state as a nation. It has never been wise to apply the same failed corrupt leadership, ineffective economic policies and then expect qualitative and quantitative change. The system is rotten to the core. We deserve the new blood, untainted and focused leadership. ZimFirst is built on a foundation and principles to provide such transformative leadership.
A Zim First government will ensure there is Honesty, Accountability and national Unity of purpose. Honesty ensure that the government focuses on programs that guarantee economic prosperity and democratic freedom, rather than pursuing personal arbitrary agendas. A government principled on honesty will communicate to its citizens on all matters that affect them. Accountability will also determine democratic reforms to ensure that our government is accountable for the decisions it makes and the national resources they manage. Accountability brings tools that will effectively deal decisively with corruption through inherent tools that provide checks and balances in all governance processes. These tools will ensure that the country’s resources benefit the nation without prejudice and not a select few privileged individuals as is the currently the norm. ZimFirst government will put in place control systems which curb abuse of power by those in high offices. Moreover, unity is key to national solidarity. Therefore, we will embark on national building through investing in activities that promote national unity, peace and discouraging use of hate speech in political discourse.
Diversity will be promoted in all walks of life, promoting a people with national pride and sense of belonging.
Besides dissolving toxicity in Zimbabwe’s political milieu, ZimFirst’s economic policies will grow the economy at an initial target rate of 6% per year and create 3 million formal jobs that are permanent and sustainable.
