The ZANU PF succession conspiracy battle will never end until something significant breaks or happens.

This was shown recently when the Permanent Secretary of Media and Information George Charamba took to the airwaves and fanned the tension with an innuendo filled rant against shadowy successionists in the party.

Speaking in hints and a subtle style which has become the hallmark of the succession battle, Charamba attacked some unnamed members in the ruling party calling them little men of little minds.

“Here are little men with absolutely no iota of history behind them thinking they can one day emerge as leaders of this country with their little minds thinking baldness is age, it isn’t” he said.

“You see here is one tragedy of those little fellas and I call them little fellas; they confuse media skills with social skills. They think that you can scale up the political ladder by tweeting; through a tweeter, without knowing that they are tweeting themselves to eternity”.

“Who think when you manipulate one or two headlines, you have a social base for launching your stupid ambitions, they will come to grief, they will come to grief get it from me”, he added.

The succession battle has refused to abate even in the aftermath of the expulsion of former Vice President Joyce Mujuru and a hoarde of her supposed backers including former Cabinet Ministers.

Instead it has taken a new dimension with conspiracies growing by the day as the remaining members continue pointing fingers at each other.

The instability brought by this supposed conspiracy against President Mugabe has allegedly served to stall the speed of economic recovery as government members have become engrossed in the machinations of the sub-plot at the expense of fundamental duties.

Charamba who is also the President’s spokesperson attacked those who surmised that by 2018 President Mugabe would be dead.

“Does that make sense? Who says Mugabe won’t be there in 2018. And who are all these God’s deputies who know when Mugabe will die, who can tell who should be Vice President and who should not be?’

“Who can tell who must succeed Mugabe when they have killed him off?

And meanwhile, we must not accept that they are not ambitious themselves, but they know who must not succeed”, he said.

With the President turning 92 in February the succession debate has refused to die down and continued bickering is set to intensify in the coming days.
