As the deadline for the expiration of immigrant permits of Zimbabweans in South Africa draws near, the Zimbabwean government says it is in the dark about the impending move to deport its citizens who will fail to go home to renew their permits.
Zimbabwe’s Home Affairs Minister, Kembo Mohadi told the state-run Chronicle newspaper that he was only hearing the developments from the media.
However, he expressed hope that that his South African counterparts would contact and brief him about the issue on time to allow for contingent measures to be put in place.
South African cabinet resolved last week that permits granted under the Zimbabwe Special Dispensation Project will expire in November 2014 and fresh permits can only be obtained if people return to Zimbabwe to apply.
