Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – It has increasingly become clear that an unlawful organisation of DSIs and Directors (NASID) is busy misleading Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and gvt into opening schools without meeting WHO standards for their personal benefits from illegal BSPZ funds levied on every child and through incessant workshops.
Nasid is in the process of mapping ways to bring teachers to schools so that they starve. It has also suggested a 6 days working week to government allegedly to cover up for lost time. It’s clear that Nasid has unilaterally added its name to a number of teachers’ enemies.
As teachers, let’s remind Nasid that it is not our employer and must not interfere with our efforts to be treated in a more humane manner by our employer. Let’s remind Nasid that we are not interested in their fire fighting antics but holistic address of our safety, health and welfare. The uniform of the guerrilla is the colour of his/her enemy. We urge school heads to be careful lest they also salivate at Nasid poison carrot and are abused. Teachers do not want assistance with transport perse, but salaries that resonate with US$520-US$550, let alone guarantee of their safety and health through acquisition of covid 17 abatement equipment PPEs ( testing kits, sanitizers, masks, thermometers etc) and testing of teachers, pupils and ancillary staff before opening of schools.
This is a legitimate cause that Nasid cannot stand against. Teachers must be prepared to bite the bullet to guarantee their lives and fair labour practice. It is our hope that gvt will mellow down to a more constructive approach that promotes industrial harmony and productivity by addressing the health and safety concerns of teachers and pupils, and the welfare of teachers before schools open.
