0 0Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo has dismissed Zimbabwean media as lacking any future after its holiday hiatus when no hardcopy editions of newspapers came out.
Moyo said the move, which seemed to insinuate the absence of news during Christmas day, was a clear sign that the local media is headed nowhere.
“In Zim there was no news to report on Christmas day. So there’s no single newspaper out, and you say the print media has a future!’
“It’s as if yesterday Zim was closed”, he said.
Others however said it was a general indictment of the whole country’s low work ethic.
“It’s not just the media; in Zimbabwe most companies are closed for business for two weeks during festive season”.
“A culture of laziness”, one commentator said.
All the country’s major publications failed to produce Christmas editions as they sent their workers on festive holidays.
However they have since started printing again.
In the CBD there is currently little activity with many major stores shut down for the holidays with only the smaller enterprises open for business.
Meanwhile Prof Moyo has scoffed at his pending case with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) saying his release into the custody of his lawyers is a sign of the baseless nature of allegations against him.
“That (being released into the custody of lawyers) happens when persons “arresting” you know they’ve no arresting or detention powers but are abusing the process for political reasons!’ he said on social media.
Moyo’s case with ZACC has of late simmered down with many saying it’s a prelude to a silent arrangement that will result in Moyo going scot-free.
