Harare, Zimbabwe (News Of The South) – After years in complete isolation the cultural norms and values which resemble the social identity of the Zimbabwean people since time immemorial is beginning to gather momentum as reflected by the events which took place in the preceding weeks.
The latest relates to the Chingaira Bira which was held last Friday in the heart of Chief Gwasira Makoni Village in Rusape last Friday.
The cultural event which extended the media invitation was intended to clear a path for repatriation of Zimbabwe’s Royals Skulls which lay in state in the United Kingdom for more than 20 decades of years now.
Chingaira together with other Seven Chiefs and the iconic spirit mediums were executed during the height of colonial occupation in the country and the white settlers had thier heads flown to the United Kingdom for unspecified reasons.
The Bira event is likely to be a game changer in going a long way in inspiring other families to manage similar events their biological ancestors whose skulls are yet to be repatriated from England.
The same Friday was also a day to remember for the chiefs in Mazowe who met Vice President Kembo Mohadi on the cultural perspective to bring back cultural norms and values to achieve peace and development in the country.
About a fortnight ago the First Lady Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa launched the Culture and Food Festival in the Capital, a momentous event which was perceived to be embracing the traditional ethos which have suffered diminishing over the years.
Apart from this a conference on the repatriation has been set aside to discuss the progress in bringing back to Zimbabwe the remains of the legendary iconic spirit medium Mbuya Nehanda who died in the hands of white settlers due to her consistency resistance to colonial imperialism together with other Royals such as Chief Mashayamombe, Chief MAKONI and others. The conference will be in Leicester on Saturday July 27.
