Harare, Zimbabwe. (News Of The South) – ZIMBABWE Union of Journalists (ZUJ) have urged journalist to utilise social media such as blogs so that they disseminate balanced and
factual information straight to the grassroots without worrying about their stories being spiked in newsrooms.
Addressing journalist at a Blogging workshop held in Harare yesterday, ZUJ Secretary General Forster Dongozi advised journalist to open blogs in order to disseminate their media voices online directly to the grassroots to reduce the number of good stories being spiked in newsroom because of some reasons best known by the organisation.
”Most newspapers are not disseminating information on the ground but rather spread the information they want them the grassroots to know and with the blogs, you become the editor, journalist, proof reader at the same time thereby disseminate your story without worrying about your story being spiked in the newsroom.
“So l advise you guys to open blogs and disseminate factual and balanced stories to the people directly as most other good stories in the newsroom remain unpublished and never see the light of the day to serve the interest of the organisation.
Speaking at the same occasion Blogger Expert and AMH online journalist John Mokwetsi said its high time journalist become their own boss and can earn a good living by creating blogs which as well attract adverts from potential organisation.
“l urge you guys to create blogs so that the right information is disseminated directly to the grassroots without being spiked and as well earn a good living without relying on monthly salaries that sometimes don’t come.
