ZIMBABWE’S flagship rugby side, the Sables, have named a strong 24 man squad for this week’s Windhoek Draught Tri-Nations Rugby Series set to roll into life on Friday at the Hage Geingob Stadium on Friday.

The tri-nation tourney will feature hosts Namibia and Africa’s rugby stronghold Kenya.

The Sables will depart for Windhoek today(Wednesday) and are expected to arrive in Windhoek on November 6 to acclimatise ahead of the opening test of the series against Namibia on 8 November.

The technical department said the tri nation tournament will be used to test new players ahead of next year’s Africa cup.

“The tri-nations tournament in Namibia will serve as a good marker of where the Zimbabwe team is, in their preparations ahead of the Africa cup next year,” read statement released by Zimbabwe rugby.

Namibia hold the advantage over their rivals, having beaten Zimbabwe 37-33 in the last time they met in the Series in November 2012.

Kenya will arrive in Windhoek on November 10. Their first match in the series will be against the Sables on November 12 at 2000hrs. Kenya will want to show their supporters that the win against Zimbabwe in July was not a fluke, and that they are worthy 2013 African Champions.

Zimbabwe on the other hand, would like to avenge their loss in a match that promises to provide top quality rugby, as both teams are known for their sevens format skills and hard running rugby
