Harare, Zimbabwe (News Of The South) – The much awaited and progressive Health situation room has been launched this morning marking yet another milestone in the health delivery system as it is expected to speed up and streamline communications between policy-makers and implementers to help Zimbabwe stay on track to reach its national HIV and health targets as well as the Sustainable Development Goals on ending AIDS by 2030.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Executive Director for UNAIDS Ms Shannon Hader commended Zimbabwe for its progressive response to ending HIV saying it clearly showed that it has the power to bring change and ultimately eradicate the HIV epidemic.

“Zimbabwe has the power to bring change and I have seen it has made great strides towards ending the HIV epidemic,” she said.

Officiating the launch, the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo said the Health situation is a perfect illustration of how the nation can improve the use of existing health information systems and make E-Health strategy a reality through good use of technology.

He commended the UNAIDS structures for its genuine commitment and leadership in ending AIDS by 2030 and providing the much needed technical support that has made the innovation a reality in Zimbabwe. He said this initiative will assist the nation in tracking its health coverage targets.

“This indeed places Zimbabwe at a better position to track its progress towards its universal health coverage targets,” he said.

Through its adopted ambitious treatment target, Dr Moyo said 90% of the people living with HIV have acquired testing services, 90% of HIV positive people who know their status have the provision of sustained antiretroviral therapy whist ensuring that those on treatment have durable viral load suppression.

The Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Agnes Mahomva said it was time to make good use of the information services, technology and make a e-Health a strategy to elevate the health system.
