(News of The South) – The National Political Dialogue Forum has commenced between the Ruling party, Opposition parties and various stakeholders in the Country. During the official launch of the dialogue yesterday, the President said it was crucial that all stakeholders partake in trying to curb the economic situation facing Zimbabwe.
Discussions are thus underway, trying to pave a way forward regarding to the status quo Zimbabwe is in. The President of Zimbabwe believes the dialogue will be fruitful in improving the country’s economic situation. According to the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe E. D. Mnangagwa, “The culture of a dialogue, which we begun today, must be synonymous with us as a people and nation. Whatever differences, we are all Zimbabweans. We will sink or swim together. Let us build our future in peace, love and unity.”
Different stakeholders and other political party leaders applaud the President, supporting his initiative. Political rivals have thus signed a conduct of agreement. If successful, it would be a life changing program uniting Zimbabweans whilst solving the glitches Zimbabwe is facing.
The dialogue, which included several organisations and other political parties excluded Nelson Chamisa, the leader of MDC Alliance, who snubbed the invitation. In light of this, Nelson Chamisa on the 18th of May said;
“Zimbabwe’s crisis is political. We haven’t had genuine and true political settlement since the days of Lancaster, Unity accord and GPA GNU. Deceptive, manipulative politics upon fake dialogue is the source of all our national dis cohesion. This breeds false, disputed and rigged processes”
South Africa urged Zimbabwe to make use of a mediator to facilitate a fruitful dialogue and map a way forward between the ruling and opposition parties for the best interests of their citizens. South Africa’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mphakama Mbethe said the SADC will stand with Zimbabwe, in support of the National dialogue. He said “ We are grateful Zimbabwe has established the dialogue voluntarily… the National dialogue must be inclusive and participatory take into account the views of all Zimbabweans …For credibility, the leadership of Zimbabwe wishes to consider a facilitator outside Zimbabwe. We as a region will be ready to propose names from the African continent”
Nelson Chamisa the leader of the main opposition party MDC Alliance, has since been reported to have welcomed the proposal made by South Africa with open arms. With all this bad blood between the politicians, it may be for the good of the country and leaders to settle their differences and find each other so as to solve the serious economic problems that are affecting the people of Zimbabwe.
