MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Condemn the Arrests of Journalist and Jacob Ngarivhume

Movement for Democratic Change Alliance Youth Assembly today has condemned the arrests of Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and Jacob Ngarivhume by Zimbabwe Republic Police today .

By Desire Tshuma

Stephen Sarkozy Chuma the national spokesperson for the Youth Assembly for the MDC Alliance said they are really concerned with the continuous arrests of the voices that speak highly against the stinking corruption that has escalated to the level that has seen the country’s livelihoods suffer.

“Today the unpopular regime has illegally arrested and abducted Jacob Ngarivhume and Hopewell Chino’ono for exposing the rot that is done by President Emmerson Mnangagwa government as means of stopping them from speaking against corruption ” said Chuma.

“Few days ago the same regime broke into Obert Masarure’s homestead in a palpable mission to abduct , the shameless regime again today intended to illegally arrest MDC Alliance vice chairman Honourable Job Sikala for as well choosing to speak against corruption, we can not allow this rot under our watch ” added Chuma .

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) has also issued statement on the arrest of Journalist Hopewell Chino’ono.

“The ZUJ would like to strongly condemn the brazen attack of a journalist by the Zimbabwean government and it’s security forces , acts of aggression against journalists such as Hopewell who engage into investigate journalism is a clear sign that he is being victimized for exposing corruption in the government ” said ZUJ Secretary General Foster Dongozi.

Same comments were uttered by Zimbabwe NGO Forum for Human Rights .”We continue to shoot ourselves in the foot as a country where we fail to follow our rules.I am at a loss to understand why they had to break the doors of Hopewell’s house if it was a proper arrest by trained police officers and why keep him without informing him of his charge, we now see the statement confirming the arresting dated tomorrow and his lawyers are saying he had not been officially charged and Jacob Ngarivhume is within his rights to speak about the intention to demonstrate, Section 59 is still part of the supreme law ” said Jestina Mukoko chairperson of Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum.
