Zimbabwe Government Prepares To Present 6th Cedaw State Party Periodic Report
Press Release.
The Government of Zimbabwe led by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprise Development takes part in the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) hearing next month and in preparation, two experts from Nepal and Ghana are in the country to share their knowledge and brief government and civil society.
UN Women Zimbabwe as part of the Spotlight Initiative is supporting two activities with government and civil society. The CEDAW Mock Session aims to prepare the Zimbabwe delegation for the presentation of its periodic report. Meanwhile, a CSO briefing meeting will also be conducted to prepare CSOs for their engagement with the CEDAW Committee.
The activities have been scheduled as follows:
CSO BRIEFING CEDAW MOCK SESSION

The two invited experts are Bandana Rana from Nepal and Ghanaian Dorcas Coker-Appiah. Bandana Rana is the current Vice-Chairperson of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Dorcas Coker-Appiah is a former member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. The CEDAW Committee is a body of experts elected under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) to monitor implementation of the Convention by States Parties.
When a State ratifies CEDAW, it undertakes the obligation to present reports at the United Nations on the progress it has made implementing women’s human rights. A report is presented every four years to the CEDAW Committee. The Zimbabwean Government is due to present its 6th CEDAW State Party Periodic Report to the CEDAW Committee on 13 February 2020 in Geneva Switzerland.
