Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – The newly appointed Environmental Management board should champion topical issues of wetland protection and preservation, advocate for the national drive towards a clean, safe and healthy environment through proper solid and liquid waste management as well as protection and rehabilitation of our new natural environment from the adverse impact of the extractive mineral resource industry, Hon Minister Prisca Mupfumira has said.
Speaking at the official announcement of the EMA board members, Hon Mupfumira encouraged the new team to guide the environment agency’s principles and reach their fullest potential. She said due to the effects of Cyclone Idai, they had a major role to play in the affected areas.
“I urge you all to guide the Environment Agency’s principles and work hard to reach your fullest potential, we have a key role to play in the areas affected by the Cyclone Idai,” Hon Mupfumira said.
Minister Mupfumira also said there is going to be a 2 day summit which will coincide with the World Environment Day on the 5th and 6th Day of June to give the new board a platform to familiarize with societal and governmental expectations.
The newly appointed Chairperson, Ambassador Florence Chideya pledged to be exemplary in all their doings saying the responsibility bestowed upon them is tremendous therefore they will usher in to ensure a clean and safe environment. Ambassador Chideya reassured the society that the new board is on standby and ready to deliver.
The Board members, who were carefully chosen and are a reflection of both age and gender sensitivity include Ambassador Florence-Chairperson, Christopher Chitindi-Vice chairperson, Abraham Matiza, Irvine Kunene, Juliet Chiketa, Leon Muwoni, Molline Mayahle, Nickel Mushangwe, Sheila Sidambe and Tinofara Hove. However Hon Mupfumira said more additions are coming after they have passed the vetting process.
