2 0As part of promoting talented artists, News Of The South managed to catch up and have an interview with Zimbabwe`s Starbrite 2013/14 winner Trust Makurumure and below is the detailed interview.
NOTS: Trust Makurumure, I understand you are the winner, Zimbabwe Starbrite Talent Competition 2013/14(Music Category), can you tell me how it feel being the winner of such a prestigious talent competition?
TRUST: I always thought after winning the prize I would feel different! Yes I felt different, I felt honoured, humbled and inspired especially not to disappoint the people who believed in my talent. It`s really a matter of Grace emerging as a winner from over 10000 participants.
NOTS: Having scooped first position at Starbrite, what are your future plans as an upcoming musician?
TRUST: Obvious an album is in the pipeline, but I have to be strategic enough on how I am going to do it. for this year I am going to release a string of singles. As it is mostly with talent search, crowned winners end their dreams after receiving the prize, I am really going to be different from them, for my name to remain in people’s mind, I am going to tirelessly work towards releasing singles for my fans and supporters this year and albums in the coming years.
NOTS: It is very difficult for most parents to allow their children to venture into music at the expense of academics, what was your parents response to your chosen musical career?
TRUST: Fortunate enough,I was really in love with my books and passed with flying colors so my parents supported everything I put my heart to knowing and understanding I wouldn’t disappoint them. I come from a strong music background family with both my parents, my mother being the music director at church whilst my dad sing for the male church group Vabvuwi, they all loved my music path.
NOTS: On your winning package, I am told of a recording contract, shed more light on the recording company and the duration of your contract please.
TRUST: Yes, truly on my winning package I had a recording contract with Metro Studios for a period of 3 years and its really a dream come true.
NOTS: How do you see your music career in 5 years?
TRUST: In 5 years I see myself a force to reckon with. I see Trust a gospel and inspirational powerhouse, who sings to impact people’s lives spiritually, emotionally and and physically. I would have penetrated Southern Africa and toured Europe.
NOTS: In your music career, who really inspired you to be what you are today?
TRUST: With a strong Christian background, my main source of influence was the word of God and will always be. Then life itself is an inspiration, the lows and the highs all in all are an inspiration.
My family also inspires me a lot. I also take notes from local musicians like Oliver Mtukudzi, Mai Suluma, Pride Priestly and many others and internationally guys like Jonathan Burtler, J Moss, Wanya Morris, the list is endless, music with impact inspires me.
NOTS: Briefly describe your moments at Starbrite from the start, the camps, tours etc up to you winning and how did these exercises impact your music career?
TRUST: Through Starbrite, I have completely become a whole brand new artist.I enjoyed the Safari experience and boot camps, I learnt basics of life such as time management: a deal is signed in a matter of seconds and a contract is breached in a glance. I also learnt that one is always responsible for their own actions and for every action there is a reaction and a consequence. As an artist I learnt also that reputation/ self image is important so I have to live uprightly, the way also I communicate with others, I dress and handle my etiquette matters and adds value to my brand.
I can now withstand pressure and through Starbrite, I have learnt that the best come out of me when I am pressured. As an artist, I have learnt to be flexible and work with people of different backgrounds to produce a better and refined product that is appreciated by a wide range of audiences
NOTS: Starbrite contributed to your music career, if yes how?
TRUST: Starbrite contributed a lot to my career, the greatest thing I am thankful for is the publicity and the platform to showcase my talent.
Because of Starbrite, I have made contacts with great producers and artists. With Starbrite a new me has been birthed. The show just proved that I can achieve whatever I want only if I put my mind to it.
I got into the show as a competitor and got out as pure and mature artist ready to take on the world, and that self confidence alone will take me places.

NOTS: Word of encouragement to other youths out there pursuing music career?
TRUST: My greatest word of encouragement is, education makes one a better artist.
Fellow and upcoming artists, never lose hope, believe in yourself and God. You are the best God could ever create, God put every resource that you might need in you, it might be an idea. Learn to serve God and others, don’t be selfish and keep that dream to yourself alone, share it with others.
NOTS: Do you have any music projects that you have worked on, and or that you are working on?
TRUST: Currently I am working on my songs(singles), I believe my fans deserve the best from me after all they believed in me. After I’m done and sure am ready, will record my first single which I am confident will rock my Zimbabwe and beyond considering the effort and sacrifice I am investing in them.
