(News of The South) – Zimbabwe’s U19 cricket team, yesterday lost their debut 2020 World Cup group C encounter to Bangladesh by nine wickets.

For the past five times that the two sides have met, Bangladesh has always emerged victorious and yesterday was no different.

Due to the erratic rainfall, the DLS method had to be initiated which in turn gave Bangladesh a rapturous victory.

“I am disappointed that we did not get a positive result but I am still hopeful. The weather contributed to our loss, as well as the DLS method because the approach and game plans would have been different from both sides,” said Prosper Utseya, Zimbabwe’s U19 cricket coach.

Zimbabwe’s second World Cup match will be against Pakistan on Wednesday at the Witrand Cricket Field in Potchefstroom. The match will start at 10h00 (CAT). Zimbabwe is in group C with Bangladesh, Scotland and Pakistan.

Yesterday’s U19 cricket World Cup results saw New Zealand and Japan sharing the spoils due to bad weather in their Group A encounter.
West Indies won by three wickets against Australia in their group B tier. United Arab Emirates won by 8 wickets in their group D fixture.
