The Embassy and the Diaspora Community in the United Kingdom and Europe,
after His Excellency President E.D. Mnangagwa had declared a State of Disaster in respect of the areas affected by the Tropical Cyclone IDAI, on 18 March 2019, convened a meeting to find ways to mobilise and extend assistance to the affected Provinces in Zimbabwe.

The heavy flooding, winds and incessant rain caused by Cyclone IDAI have left a
trail of devastation in Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Mozambique. The Manicaland
Province suffered the worst brunt of the Cyclone IDAI which resulted in loss of
lives, destruction of property and severe damage to roads, bridges and
communication infrastructure.

In light of this development and the President’s declaration of a State of Disaster, the Diaspora Community, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in London, established the Zimbabwe Diaspora Co-Ordinating Committee for Disaster Relief [ZDCCDR]. The mandate of the ZDCCDR is to co￾ordinate, in partnership with the wider diaspora and the Embassy of Zimbabwe, an effective diaspora-driven assistance response to a national emergency.

The Diaspora community expressed its interest to respond to the call for support and assistance in mobilising resources in the form of food, water, medicines and shelter for the affected people. The ZDCCDR agreed to establish sub-committees to spearhead the communication of the initiative, logistics and infrastructure to
support the identified activities, and financial resources for the relief efforts. The Sub Committees are as follows:
• Communication : Chaired by Dr. Knox Chitiyo : 07903150506
• Financial Services : Chaired by Ms. Hilda Madanhi : 07949396423
• Logistics : Chaired by Mr. Izzy Mutanhaurwa: 07413351322
• Infrastructure : Chaired by Mr. Chris Masikati : 07886707182

In the short-term/immediate term ZDCCDR encouraged donations of water treatment tablets, boreholes, medicines, clothes, blankets, tents, sanitation
products, health safety products, cash to purchase emergency provisions and
building materials.
The ZDCCDR agreed to establish two platforms to assist in mobilising funds for the Emergency response. The platforms are as follows:

zympay – contact Mr. Dhakesh Patel : 07968029227, and
Cassava Remit – contact Mr. Tendai Nyakudya : 07752939059.

The Finance Sub-Committee is in the process of identifying corporate partners in Zimbabwe to facilitate the procurement and distribution of the donated products in the affected areas.
The Communication sub-Committee is in the process of preparing a flier with
details on how to donate, the collection points, contact person on logistics, and
details on the zympay and Cassava Remit platforms.
