Zimbabwe : (News Of The South) – The Government of Zimbabwe has remained quiet on it’s position regarding the welfare of hundreds Tembwe residents, left homeless after council destroyed their homes Tuesday December 8.
It is Government duty to protect it’s citizens from violence.
Residents of Budriro 5’s Tembwe Housing Co-operative, including women and children suffered emotional abuse and psychological violence to witness their homes reduced to rubble.
In addition, vulnerable young girls, women, children as well as the infirm, were left exposed to the elements including the rains currently falling all across the country and also to disease including the Covid-19.
The destruction of homes also rendered girls, women and children more vulnerable to sexual predation and abuse. Without shelter, food and other needs, they are compromised, which makes them easily exploitable.
Ironically, the demolitions happened during the anti-Gender Based Violence period ending 16 December and also close by the International Human Rights Day due today December 10.
No statement has come from Government on the incident which has been largely disapproved by Zimbabweans as a barbaric and cruel act by Harare City Council.
