The Permanent Secretary of MoSPE, Tumisang Thapela said:“We have just introduced Odilo digital library, an online library which is going to be done through our website. We want to make sure that one can actually borrow books online and continue reading.”
“However our major challenge is the limitation in terms of the online reach for those children who don’t have access to connectivity, especially in the remote rural areas,” she said.
In order to fix the problem she mentioned above the she said they have been trying to have well stocked libraries especially in rural centers where a majority of children are not benefiting.
The library is based on Odilo which allows organizations to create libraries from over 3million pieces of content.
This platform is used by other Ministries of Education from Chile and Colombia.
The platform has books from all stages of education and it also allows parents to monitor their child’s progress by linking the account to their email.
Odilo also allows local publishers to add their books while protecting their copyrights and controlling access.
The content can also be accessed offline which makes life easier for everyone.
The site will definitely help hundreds of Zimbwean kids to access reading materials at no cost during this difficult time.
