Press Release.
It is with a great sense of sadness that we are witnessing the development of increasing hostility, xenophobia, discrimination and intolerance towards our kith and kin in South Africa.
The acts are an open affront to humanity and the spirit of Ubuntu we so readily displayed to South Africans during the dark days of apartheid. As ZANU PF UK we strongly condemn such heinous acts of hate and brutality that are reminiscent of the dark days of apartheid.
We also call for stern and decisive action from local, national and regional authorities. As difficult as it maybe we ask for peace and calm during these trying times. Like you my heart bleeds when I see the harrowing scenes of sheer callousness on the streets of the republic.
Our Chairman Cde Nick Mangwana left for Harare last night on a working trip; he will employ this opportunity to discuss this pertinent issue with the relevant offices. In the UK we have been in communication with embassy officials and our compatriots of the ANC UK branch. During the Chairman’s absence, Dr Sam Chindaro our Vice Chair will assume the stewardship of our chapter, we are confident that through his leadership we will continue on a progressive and inclusive trajectory.
In solidarity with the victims of these malicious attacks we have taken the difficult decision to postpone our Independence Day celebrations that were scheduled to take place in Leicester at the Hilton on Saturday. We will soon advise you of the new date once it has been finalised. Those that had paid will be reimbursed accordingly. We unreservedly apologise for any inconvenience this might cause.
Comrades I also appeal to you to practice restraint and sensitivity when sharing graphic images on our groups.
Fellow comrades I personally commend your spirit of togetherness, your empathy, patience and the resolve you have displayed.
Lastly I wish you a very happy independence day.
Kind Regards
Itai M.P Choto
National Party Spokesperson.
