A bitter power struggle is brewing within ZANU PF, Zimbabwe’s ruling party, as Elder Kudakwashe Tagwirei and Paul Tungwarara engage in a heated battle for control. The two influential figures are vying for position, with allegations of vote-buying and procedural irregularities flying thick and fast.

Tagwirei, a wealthy businessman, has been accused of using his wealth and influence to block Tungwarara’s rise, while Tungwarara, an advisor to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been gaining popularity through grassroots programs like the Presidential Borehole Scheme and Veterans Housing Fund. Either way Tungwarara uses money to do exactly what he accuses Tagwirei of doing.

The division between the two is largely driven by succession politics and ambitions for the party’s leadership, with Tagwirei’s faction accused of using wealth and procedural technicalities to block Tungwarara’s rise. Tungwarara has warned against using personal wealth to gain influence, emphasizing the importance of character and service. So the question is whose money is Tungwarara using in all the projects he is doing. Is he suggesting that he is using president’s money for the projects he is using to climb to the top.

However, critics argue that Tungwarara is also using his connections and resources to cement his position, highlighting the hypocrisy of his stance.

The implications of this division are significant, potentially destabilizing ZANU PF’s internal dynamics and affecting the party’s overall performance. The battle for control is also seen as a reflection of the broader struggle for power within Zimbabwe’s ruling elite.

As the two factions engage in a war of words, the nation is left wondering what the future holds. With both Tagwirei and Tungwarara seen as formidable contenders, the stakes are high, and the outcome is far from certain.

The people of Zimbabwe are left to wonder: will the party’s internal divisions spell disaster for the country’s economic recovery, or will the two factions put aside their differences for the greater good?
