Harare, Zimbabwe. (News Of The South) – Highfield West Member of Parliament Psychology Maziwisa has been caught up in a food politicisation storm following a poster he made to announce his forthcoming rally on Friday.
The poster is inscribed with the following words ‘Cde Psychology Maziwisa Star Rally, Highfield West Constituency ,Rice ,Rice ,Rice, Rice ,Rice and on the Agenda top of the list is rice distribution where it is written ‘Huyai Mupihwe Rice’ meaning come and get rice.
All this came barely a day after parliament condemned politicisation of food aid.
Maziwisa got a barrage of criticism from many people on social media for his antic.
On twitter one Bjorn Ironside described it as ‘demagoguery at its best’.
“Create hunger and then come as saviours because it’s election time. Wickedness,” scoffed one King George on twitter.
Popular comedian Rolland Lunga popularly known as Boss Kedha who hails from Maziwisa’ s constituency alluded this to a political gimmick as the country is now bracing for 2018 elections
In a facebook rant at Maziwisa, Boss Kedha wrote, ‘ Dear Psychology Maziwisa.Tirikukuonai zvenyu makuda kubatika kumaraini manje because nguva iya yakusvika? Pese apa mamuripi? Waurikufunga asina rice muHighfield ndiani? Huyai henyu hanta muri mastar.(Dear Psychology Maziwisa. We are seeing what you are up to. You are now coming to canvass for support as elections are now near, where were you all this time. Who do you think has no rice in his or her home? Come since you think you are witty)
Efforts to get a comment from the young politician hit a snag as his phone was not getting through.
Many civic organisations and opposition parties have lambasted Zanu PF of using food aid as a voter-bait. In the recently held Bikita West by-elections ,the Election Resource Centre said there was the need to deal with vote-buying and politicisation of food-aid to level the election playfield and ensure free and fair election come 2018.
